Retrospection

IS THE CURRENT EDUCATION SYSTEM TEACHING OUR CHILDREN
TO SCORE OR TO SURVIVE?

Education is best defined as a system that teaches students their value, acts as a platform to enhance learning, facilitates in identifying strengths and develop on potential. However, the current definition as prevailing in schools revolves around examinations where a child’s intelligence is judged from the marks their score during a 3 hour examination.

All of us at a stage in life have been students and have gone through the same process of education. The same old traditional education of a 3 hour examination that alone judges the student is in no longer a match for the pace in which the industry is moving today.

The industry demands for individuals who are beyond books and hires personnel based on their conceptual clarity and strong fundamental back up. The percentage of marks obtained by one on his report card is of least influence to his employability. The only thing that matters is his fundamental foundation in concepts learnt during his course of academics, which has given into today’s education system as a memorizing tool for examination for the purpose of scores alone.

Students today lack the conceptual clarity of basics in academic due to the prevailing system in examination. Day in and day out, the child is tested on the bases of his short term memorizing skills in all chapters for a particular class and once he graduates to the next level to another class, storage of this memory fills the prior. The cycle continues until he reaches the stage where in the real world, his concepts are questioned and loop holes then are realized but a little to Late.

We are not against exams per se but we find the kind of exams we have are objectionable because they only test the child’s memory or how fast he writes. We agree that assessment is the only system of evaluation of things learnt and thereby developed a portal viable and equally distressing for concepts learnt and neutralize exams and named this Portal 24X7guru.com

24X7guru.com- an outcome of a dream

24X7guru.com is an outcome of a dream, a dream of experienced professional who were stimulated by the stress levels, low self esteem arising due to low scores in exams, the increasing level of suicides committed and running away from home due to failure in exams, these and many more as prevailing in young students today.

The team then committed themselves to the cause of spreading quality education beyond examination to cater to knowledge that increases the child’s self esteem, acts as a platform to enhance learning, facilitates in identifying their strengths and develops on potential. Through 24X7guru.com they endeavor to train young minds to have a strong academic foundation making Young India intellectually stronger and stress free.

24x7guru.com combines Unified Council’s Education content, Bodhtree’s online diagnostic and assessment engine to help students study more efficiently, evaluate their progress and scale better grades in science and mathematics subjects.

The future of India depends on Educating the Future- 24X7guru.com

It is a cliché to say that children are our future; we hear that all the time. But if it's true, what does that future look like??

The future of India is a ten year-old boy from Mumbai whose father was a doctor and hopes he'll become one too.

The future of India is a nine year-old girl from Delhi whose father is a lawyer and hopes someday she would be one too.

The future of India is a thirteen year-old girl from Bangalore whose father is a businessman and she dreams of someday be one too.

The future of Our country is in these children and thousands more studying right now in schools, full of promise, blending cultures and creating something new. We want them to flourish and are diminished if they won't.

To partner with them and help them in strengthening their academics in their early foundation phase, we developed an on-line assessment tool with the objective to complement efforts by schools, teachers and parents to empower students to become conceptually strong and named it the 24X7guru.com

This dynamic assessment portal enables students to identify their strengths & areas of improvement in subjects as vital as Mathematics & Science. Unlike other conventional teaching tools that promote rote learning and create pressure on students to memorise rather than understand; 24x7guru.com enables conceptual clarity, rational thinking ability and analytical skills through scientifically designed assessments tests.

How does it work?

We strongly believe that a strong foundation at the school level itself is the base for success in future and therefore 24X7guru.com caters to the students between class 3 to 10 for CBSE and ICSE and shortly shall be adding the respective State Boards on to its portal.

Once the child is subscribed on to the portal, the entire syllabus pertaining to his class is provided with the chapter wise breakup ( as shown in the figure below)

The child can assess himself on the chapter of his choice. Each test compromises of 20 multiple choice questions. The questions are based on the concepts pertaining to the chapter. Each test has 20 questions and every chapter can be tested 3 times which provide for an overall 60 different concept questions to the student on every chapter. Each question is based on various skill type such as Observation, Critical, Reasoning, analytical understanding etc. The focal point is the accessibility of class and course specific information by which students can assess their learning by taking a test and rate their progress everyday after school hours. Sample of the question is provided below:

After the child completes his test an instant feedback on performance is provided. This feedback provides him detail of Where he went wrong and more importantly Why he went wrong. The report generated explains the child a step by step solution and reasoning to all questions asked thereby strengthening his knowledge. Sample of the reports is provided below

24X7guru.com is a 100% web assessment tool for the generation Z that utilizes modern tools and techniques thereby making learning and assessment fun for children with the absence of stress. It traces performance over a period of time to give detailed analysis of performance in a subject with every test taken.
It tests the understanding and application of concepts rather than memorizing skills.

Road map that we propose For ICT in Education

Currently talks on education have become popular since everyone has started commenting on it with the objective of questioning the system rather than providing effective solutions on improvising the system.

We all agree that it is unjustified to declare a student pass or fail on the basis of a single threehour public exam. There should be more comprehensive way of evaluating students by employing multiple techniques of assessment.

We at 24x7guru.com propose to partner with the Department of Education to help in strengthening every child’s academics in their early foundation phase through the use of modern tools and techniques that all schools across India can uniformly use not only to encourage the students to learn concepts but also to reinforce what is being taught in the classroom.

The Proposal:

To introduce 24X7guru.com as a reinforcing tool for concepts learnt in class and include this tool as a uniform learning/ teaching methodology for all schools across India.

This would benefit in:
  • Providing a continuous uniform evaluation exercise on concepts
  • Developing knowledge quotient in every child making their foundation strong
  • Providing an opportunity for feedback or discussion on the students responses
  • Motivating him/her to do better rather than just providing grades
  • Lessen the load and tension on students
  • Making teachers more accountable as performance of all teachers can be traced based on the responses of the students in the assessment
24X7guru.com through the use of modern tools and techniques could also provide the department of education with a detailed combined report of the level of learning’s had by the children in all schools at the State, District and Mandal level.

Benefits of 24X7guru.com to the stakeholders

With great anticipation we look forward to partnering with the Indian Educational System for the development of this “Generation Z” and are open to explore the possibilities of together building the Young India.
