A Case Study of use of Interactive method of teaching with ICT for education

Its nice to hear the feedback from the community members for the proposed policy framework on the use of ICT in school education. Through this platform I would like to share the experience that we are undergoing while implementing the Rajiv Gandhi Project for the EDUSAT supported elementary education (RGPEEE). This is a joint venture of MHRD, ISRO, IGNOU and State Govt. for the effective utilisation of ICT techniques so as to enhance the level of understanding of the students. In this proect a hub has been located at Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh) from where transmission of prerecorded lessons takes place through EDUSAT satellite. In the studio located in Jabalpur teachers from 1 to 8 class records the lessons based on the syllabus and add these lessons with the innovative tools of multimedia which makes the lessons interesting to the students. Daily these lessons have been telecast on the predetermined schedule over Edusat which has been communicated to the partner states in advance.

At the receiving end the Received Only Terminals (ROT''s) comprising of solar panel, TV and DTH antenna have been installed in the schools. The students at these locations watch the programme/ lessons and learn effectively in this way . Since the content has been enriched with multimedia the students have immense interest in the video lectures.

One of the problem which we are facing at present non synchronisation of the face to face lectures at the schools with the ICT enabled lectures. Because of this students are not able to understand too much and sometimes there is problem of corelation between teachers and students. So while devising the policy for the use of ICT in school education there is need to have uniformity in the syllabus as well as synchronisation between the lectures. In this way the students would be able to learn and would be able to contribute in the overall development of INDIA in a coherent way.
