Compendium of Feedback Towards Building 'A National Policy on ICT n School Education'

The Ministry of Human Resource Development initiated policy formulation process on ‘Building a National policy on ICT in School Education’ achieved another milestone. Ms D Puradeshwari, Honourable Minister of State, Higher Education launched and released a Compendium of Feedback titled ‘Towards A National Policy on ICT In School Education In India: A Multi-Stakeholder Perspective’.

The Ministry of Human Resources Development, with its strategic partners, has engaged with approximately 400 members from the stakeholder community including education experts, ICT specialists, businesses, schools, teachers, students and others to collate their views, suggestions and recommendations on a national policy on ICT in school education.

Drafting Committee: National Policy on ICTs in School Education
August 4, 2008, New Delhi

Under the aegis of Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of HRD, a Drafting Committee was formed and convened to author the National Policy on ICTs in School Education. The first meeting of the Drafting Committee held on August 4, 2008 at New Delhi. The distinguished members of the Drafting Committee are:

Second National level consultation on Building a policy for ICT in school education
Inter-Ministerial Meet, March 12, 2008, Hotel Claridges, Aurangzeb Road, New Delhi

The second Inter-Ministerial National Consultation on drafting the National policy on ICT in school education was held on March 12, 2008 under the aegis of Ministry of HRD with the help of their strategic partner Global e-Schools and Communities Initiative (GeSCI). The discussion was primarily based on Research and Innovation, School Information Management System, Monitoring and Evaluation, Public Private Partnership, Norms and Standards, Financing, ICT in Vocational Education, Open and Distance Education, ICT for Special Needs and Quality in School Education.
 
First National level consultation on building a policy for ICT in school education
Inter-Ministerial Meet, February 13, 2008, Grand Inter Continental, New Delhi

The first Inter-Ministerial National Consultation on drafting the National policy on ICT in school education was held on February 13, 2008 under the aegis of Ministry of HRD with the help of their strategic partner Global e-Schools and Communities Initiative (GeSCI). The objective of the consultation was to conduct a collaborative, consultative and participatory process in making of the National Policy by involving Government departments along with other stakeholders including the educational institutions, private sector, experts, state representatives and civil society.


GeSCI-CSDMS at GK3
India as a Trendsetter for Successful Multi-stakeholder Partnerships

GeSCI and CSDMS saw representation at the third Global Knowledge Conference (GK3) held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 11th – 13th December. The event included a panel discussion on ‘India as a trendsetter for successful multi-stakeholder partnerships’ with a group eminent panellists including Prof M S Swaminathan and senior representation from GeSCI, CSDMS, UNDP and IDRC. The discussion focussed on the role of multi-stakeholder partnerships in ICT for development in the context of education and community development.

 
Community Media Initiative
i4d Film Festival and Participatory Video Training 2007

GeSCI is one of the key partners of the Community Media initiative launched by CSDMS i4d Film Festival at GK3, held on 9-10 December 2007 at Hotel Crowne Plaza, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. GeSCI is a part of the multi-stakeholder partnership holding financial and intellectual stake in this initiative. GeSCI’s work with the ministries of Education in Africa, Latin America and India, provides a practical platform for engagement with local governments and civil society organisations.

African Knowledge Exchange (AKE) Initiative
A Multi-Country Workshop on e-Learning
3rd - 4th December 2007, Nairobi, Kenya

The e-learning Africa (eLA) initiative has created an interest across the African countries on adoption and implementation of e-learning policies, initiatives and programmes. GeSCI has introduced the Africa Knowledge Exchange (AKE) initiative, to facilitate knowledge sharing and knowledge building partnerships. A two day workshop was held in Nairobi, Kenya which saw participants from eight countries, aimed to build dialogue and establish mechanisms of knowledge exchange among participating countries.
